Let me start with a statement that has made me unpopular in more than one bid review: If you are comparing industrial instruments by unit price, you are doing it wrong. Not 'sometimes wrong.' Wrong as a policy.
I am a procurement manager at a 180-person specialty chemical company. I have managed our instrumentation budget, roughly $340,000 per year, for seven years. I have negotiated with more than 40 vendors, logged every order in our cost tracking system, and made enough buying mistakes to know exactly where the hidden money goes.

This view is not about brand loyalty. I do not care whether you buy an Ashcroft instrument or a different brand. What I care about is whether you have counted the costs that happen after the PO is signed. Period.
I used to be the guy who put three quotes side by side and crossed out the highest one. It took six years and about 240 purchase orders to understand how stupid that was. The lowest quote is rarely the lowest TCO.

That was the one time certificates were missing, and those gauges were going into a quality-critical line. - Training and documentation
- Disposal or decommissioning
Do I run that full model for every $25 part? No. That would be insane. But for anything that touches a safety boundary, a quality certificate, or a continuous process, I do a ballpark version.
Everyone told me to include consequence cost in my comparison. I only believed it after ignoring it once. We bought an ultrasonic level transmitter because the base price was low. The first false echo from a new agitator blade cost us a missed batch and two service calls. The total tab was 40% above the more expensive quote we had rejected. That was my reverse conversion.
Also check the ingress protection rating against your environment. IEC 60529 defines what the IP digits mean. A transmitter with IP65 might be fine for a dry area; IP67 or IP68 may be needed for washdown. That difference changes TCO, and it is usually visible on the datasheet.
The Objection: 'We Do Not Have Time for TCO'
I hear that a lot. The purchasing department says they have three days to respond. The engineer says the line is down. The plant manager says they just need a part, now.
I get it. I have made urgent purchases without a TCO analysis. That is exactly how I learned to include a consequence cost in every quote comparison.
Try this quick screen. Estimate the consequence of a wrong measurement. If it is zero, the gauge is for a non-critical display, the level transmitter is on a tank with high margin: buy the cheapest one and move on. If the consequence is not zero, then the difference between a $300 gauge and an $800 gauge is not $500. It is the cost of a failed batch, a spill, or a re-certification. That number is usually a lot more than $500.
You might also say that TCO sounds good but can be a way to justify a more expensive brand. Fair point. I am not suggesting you buy the most expensive option. I am suggesting you price the risk. If a digital pressure gauge Ashcroft costs more than an unknown import, the question is not 'how much more?' It is 'what do I get for that difference?' Sometimes the answer is a super responsive rep and a certificate you can actually trace. Sometimes it is not. The point is to check.
Bottom Line
Honestly, I am not sure why more vendors do not quote TCO-friendly pricing. My best guess is that a low-looking base price wins more bid reviews than an honest total cost. But you do not have to play that game.

Ask about calibration, installation, verification, and failure consequences. If the vendor does not know, that tells you something.
We still buy from Ashcroft often, because after seven years of cost tracking, the total cost of their pressure instruments has been predictable, and predictability has a value. But I would say the same about any vendor that gives me a straight answer on the costs that come after the PO.
Stop comparing prices. Start comparing total cost. That is the difference between a buyer who saves money on paper and a buyer who saves money in real life.
