It Started With a Discrepancy Report
It was Q1 2024, and I was in the middle of our quarterly audit. Take It From Someone Who's Been Burned
If you are specifying instrumentation for a project—whether it's a multimeter for maintenance, an Ashcroft digital pressure gauge for a process line, or a Starrett micrometer for quality checks in a machine shop—the same principle applies: the spec is the brand.
I'm not saying you should reject every order that's 0.1% off. But I am saying that you should know what you're accepting, and why. Document it. Be intentional.
And if a vendor—even a name you trust like Ashcroft—sends something that doesn't meet your requirements, push back. It's not about being difficult. It's about protecting the trust your clients have placed in you. That trust is way more than the cost of a gauge. Simple.
